NY was easy for me too.
I came alone for 2 months w/o everyone to live with my in laws first before we could find suitable housing. I learned the grid [streets] fast and was able to get a job in 48 hours.
I'm a hard worker so I was able to become more a manager type in a matter of months. I'm agressive so I asked everyone directions, and EVERYONE was nice. I was able to easily increase salary and do some OT. It's a great gig. I love the city.
