(and before you ask, no, I don't really care an enormous amount -- I have very little contact with him. But my sister sees him several times a week, not necessarily by choice, and is afraid that he's going to say something that will just set her off in one direction or another.)

Sadly, there's not much you can do but bite your lip and let it slide. Saying something to him won't do any good. Once you've put the ad in the paper outlining each of his lies, and predicting the date of his next bankruptcy, I'd say you're done. You never get anywhere arguing with family.
