My parents constantly bicker as well. My dad has fairly well-progressed Parkinsons and while I feel a great deal of sympathy for his condition, I don't think it makes him quite as helpless as he makes himself out to be. But then he bickers with my mother all the time about her micromanagement (which, is something to behold, but really, he is just goading her into it). It's fucked up. Makes me think that marriages, no matter how well they start, ultimately turn toxic and very little can be done to prevent that.
My parents don't bicker a lot. Really, they only seem to bicker about two things: the fact that my mother always cooks meat rare and he likes it medium; and the fact that he retired 18 months ago and since then he seems to equate retirement with naps all afternoon every day.

But then, they've managed to alienate every good friend they've ever had, except for one woman my Mom sees once every ten years. So maybe they've adapted to presenrve their mariage by bickering with everyone else. Or maybe it's just that they're each the only person on Earth who can stand the other.
