Dear Dr. Gridlock:
With our recent rainy weather, I certainly understand why so many choose very large golf-type umbrellas (the very long ones that don't fit in a bag or briefcase). However, I would like to ask people to please, please pay attention to how you carry them.
It is not uncommon to see someone carrying the umbrellas horizontally. The result is that as the person's arm swings, the pointed end is thrust forward. I have seen one woman hit in the stomach.
Perhaps if you mention it in your column, they'll be a little more cautious.
