Not if they say that but aren't willing to trade what they know it'll take to get him from the Pats. Then they're just messing with the Pats.

But imagine a system that allowed teams to yank scholarships from players for being injured or because they recruited the wrong guy and wanted to replace them. Good Lord. All the initial casual sex and BMOC crap could be the equivalent of a signing bonus in that analogy.

As I said above, I think part of the problem is that a lot of contracts are being signed when people are drafted, and the teams don't know who's going to be good. If the teams were better at evaluating talent, you'd be more likely to see guaranteed contracts.
