The books are funnier than Enron's. They aren't making a profit because they distribute the money to other non-revenue sports or spend the money profligately on facilities, because if they ran a profit they would end up giving it back to the state or the rest of the school.

What's funny is that in many states (hello, south), the highest paid government employee is the football coach. Second highest paid is the basketball coach.
