I think that's just a cost of doing business - the kids will eventually learn not to chuck a mousie while fluffy is sitting in their laps.

FWIW, I have what can be generally described as a very mean human-shredding outside cat with gigantic claws who is allowed to play with the neighbors' babies (18mo and 11mo) because he is amazingly gentle with them - I think he just knows.
