Both of them technically complied, Angela used the pieces to give her purse volume and Kayne did have white on the dress, they just wanted him to have more. Either way, neither one of them could have won those competitions because, even though they
technically complied with the rules, they did not comply with the
spirit of the rule.

Originally posted by Replaced_Texan I still think that since the collection that hit the runway was under the budget, he followed the rules. It was unclear from the episode, but I would hope that everyone else's receipts were reviewed with a fine toothed comb as well and that they would have been afforded the same penalty. I think that removing items until he was under budget and telling the judges about it was appropriately punative.

Ah. A sort of, break-the-rules-unless-you-catch-me approach. Ridiculous.
And how exactly was he punished? He was made to comply with the rule (that he tried to ignore), like everyone else. Compliance is not punishment. If he had made two collections, tried to submit both and they told him he could only submit one, would that be a punishment too? He tried to submit a collection that did not comply with the rules. He had his receipts. He knew he was over. He got caught and they let him go.
And the fact that the collection that hit the runway was under budget is irrelevant, because it's the
submission of the collection that had an advantage over the other collections that is the issue.
