Kinda like cacti - but no nasty needles. Most plants with thick fleshy leaves - aloe, ice plant, etc. They don't need frequent watering and some flower. I have some outside - they like light - not so good for the office.

I'm sure there are better ones - that was just from a quickie search and I have seen some realyl decent fake ones around. Orchids don't grow in "dirt" they grow in rocks and moss and stuff. I have one (not plastic) in my bathroom with no dirt - it is in a jar-like thing and the roots are just hanging free - the things grow up on top of trees in the wild, so they are not used to dirt. Oh - and the real ones don't like too much water - once every 2 weeks is probably fine.
