You may already do this and still find the process irritating, but I've had an easier time getting the cover on by grabbing both top corners of the comforter in one hand, getting that hand up into one of the top corners of the cover, then sliding the other top corner of the comforter along the top seam to the other top corner (while holding the original corner in the original corner). Then you can hold onto the two corners and just shake it a lot and yank the sides down.
I hate buttoning all the buttons at the bottom.
I usually call them comforter covers, but I'm into hobgoblins.

I get inside the whole thing, have my arms outstretched and do a little hoppy dance thing. Then I get out, shake the whole thing out, and thank god that the Displaced Dog doesn't know how to use the "video" function on my digital camera.
