And I assume you don't actually mean "expenses," but rather mean "fixed and unavoidable household expenses," as opposed to "my pretending I'm in an income tax bracket a couple notches up expenses," but perhaps you do. You might also consider savings.

I think part of the issue/problem here is as follows. You know and I know that people make snap judgements about people based on their appearance and facile, superficial elements. Partners have asked me if I am married to a banker, people have mistaken me for an atty, female partners appeared annoyed I'm in the same double pearls and cashmere and appear indistinguishable to them, clothes are how people draw lines in the sand. if you think outside of the box and are aware of how people judge you that gets outside of their comfort zone because they know how vapid others are especially in NY.
