He's the sort of person you want to slap on mere principle. He clicks off a Darwinian urge in all of us that makes us want to see him harmed... just to ensure he doesn't further infect the gene pool.

Thankfully, the Dems won't have the necessary majorities to pass anything. We'll get compromise for once. And we'll get another GOP Prez in 2008, so hopefully many more years of gridlock.

Here's to our govt doing what it ought to do - nothing! Now if it could only find a way to starve itself to death...
The number one rule in politics, and the most often forgotten, is that its what the voters want that counts. A good politician figures out how to give the majority 95% of what they want, and let his own preferences only influence 5% of the decisions. You can have a little influence, but you if you fight the voters on more than a few modest points, you're pissing in the wind.

Clinton understood. I suspect he would have liked to have put more liberal policies in place, but he didn't. He put the economy and the budget first. I may, in my hear of hearts, be somewhere to the left of Ted Kennedy, but if I was ever stupid enough to run for office, and voters lunatic enough to vote for me, I'd try to do the same. I think Pelosi understands this rule.

And, the great thing about politics is, once you buck what the voters want, you may con your way through one election, as Bush did in '04, but you never con your way through a second.
