I think that's ridiculous.

But I buy this:

Being gay forces you into a class of people outside the mainstream and pushes you away from things that are popular among hetero boys and men. Being pushed away from those things towards other areas that are more welcoming and accepting often leads to exposure to art, entertainment and other fields that mainstream people tend to think of as "cultured," simply because it isn't mainstream.
