She was recently a tourist in New York, and her luggage got lost so she had to buy cheap clothes at the airport. In addition, she was suffering from a hamstring injury, so she was walking very slowly down the sidewalk. The scorn heaped upon her by native New Yorkers has left her permanantly scarred.
