You strengthen their prejudices that Americans are an isolated people who cannot take time to learn about any other country, or if they do "adopt" a small piece of some other country's culture, do so on such a superficial level as to show they really are ignorant pigs.
Who would have thought a "Pretty Little Flower" could be such an archetype for "Ugly American."
