A little perspective

Each year there are 44,000 traffic fatalities in the United States, which means more than a 120 deaths a day.

Last year there were sixteen thousand murders in the United States (down from a high of 25,000). That is forty three per day. There were 75,000 deaths last year directly attributable to alcohol in the United States. That is 205 a day.

So reducing the murder rate by ten percent, or reducing the death toll rate on the Roads by two percent would make up for the combat deaths in the war on terror.

The Federal Government spends 7 billion dollars a day. The war has cost us less than what our government spends in just two months (but of course that has been spread over four years). We spend significantly more money paying farmers not to grow wheat.

Calling the "War on Terror, the war in Iraq, or the occupation a "war" is rather misleading. They should be referred to as the minor inexpensive skirmishes in the Middle East.

Just think how different the tone of the debate would be if the traffic deaths and murders were reported every day in the US and the annual death toll for both these occurrences was the headline everyday.

Just think how different the tone of the debate would be if every day they referred to it as the "minor skirmish" in the Middle East.
Is that original material, or di you lift it from someplace else?
