My grandmother would cook
everything in bacon grease. Then again, she was from Louisiana. She would cook 7-course meals at the family cabin in Michigan and then join the grandkids on the slip-n-slide. All rules of etiquette applied - it didn't matter where you were. She also did not approve of women wearing pants. She was a true southern belle. She and my grandfather had a rule for my father/aunt: no kids were allowed in the dining room or kitchen for at least an hour after they got home from work - that was adults-only martini time.
