WTF is wrong with _asking_ for that? WTF is wrong with you?

On a general level, what's wrong with it is no matter how much accommodation you give the rank and file riff raff always want more.
Example, staff persons in a law firm (or really any office so i hear). Let's say you give them a long weekend for President's day. Invariably on the Friday before the Monday people start sniffing around as to whether they might be allowed to leave a little early that day because things are slowing down early with the impending holiday and they want to beat the holiday rush. When I got to the corner office I proposed a secret office rule. Any person who asks such a question is summarily dismissed immediately. During the holiday period we invoked the rule a few times and last week for MLK no one asked.
I would suggest Northwestern do the same.
