Because setting up "sacred" space in an otherwise a-religious facility that no one is present at other than completely voluntarily (i.e. not a workplace) is just not the way America works.
So a few people have to choose between honoring their religious beliefs and attending a basketball game--where does that stop? Do all college football games need to be moved from Saturday afternoons? What about Friday night high school football?

This is perfectly reasonable. If the decision were put to me, this would be my answer in virtually any circumstance. (I say "virtually" because I can imagine a circumstance where there would be an unused office or some other space where I could tell students, "ok -- how about there?").
This makes the answer "no." Not "no, douchebag." Not "no, because you and your kind are destroying Christianity." Just "no".
Now, if someone files a lawsuit or leads a protest march over this -- well, then I start saying "douchebag." But the guy in Slave's post seemed pretty reasonable -- he wants to go to games (isn't that good? Don't you prefer that Muslims be integrated rather than segregated?). He wants to pray at the ordained times. He's fine doing that under the bleachers or anywhere else ("not a big deal," or something like that, he said). And he asked -- not demanded, just asked -- for a better option. Big fucking deal.
