Many years ago I read an article about sperm donors. Your general impression is right, I think. But, the drawback is that once you start donating for a living, you have to limit how much you, um, donate recreationally (in whatever way you accomplish that).
I remember this article, even though it was at least 14 years ago that I read it, because of the closing quote: "Finally, I'm getting paid to do something I really love."
