Bush said Cheney's former aide was not getting off free.

The consequences of his felony conviction on his former life as a lawyer, public servant and private citizen will be long-lasting."
How is that not true of anyone who is convicted of a crime for the first time who is an adult? What asinine reasoning. If that's the case, pretty much every first-time offender should have their sentences commuted.
