What's it like to not be able to control the drug/drunk thing?

I mean, I drink. I'll always drink. And I have a history of alcoholism in my family. And I've enjoyed the drugs. And intend to continue doing so reasonably, recreationally.

But I've never had those repeated moments where I got up in the morning and said "whoa, I should go have a drink" or "I'd really like a line." Or even a cigarette.

Once you've done a bunch of anything, it kind of gets regular and lessens the buzz, and if the buzz is the most important thing, wouldn't you want to preserve it? I specifically don't become an alcoholic because doing so would probably mean I couldn't drink anymore, which is a thought I couldn't bear.
