I have found that the glycemic index thing, which sort of relates to the not a lot of sugar/carbs thing, is helpful because the less hungry you feel, the less frequently you are going to fuck up on your reduced-calorie diet. I mean, I don't think it's possible to reduce calories enough to lose weight without being hungry -- but being a little hungry sometimes is a lot easier than being RAVENOUS.
That said, and while beans do stick with one, I am always shocked at how many calories are in them. You'd think they were fat globules, or something.
