Postwar by Tony Judt
Anyone read this? I am making my way to the end of it now. Highly recommended and very readable, especially about Eastern European history through the sixties and seventies and the demise of the Soviet Union. He also rejects the two generally accepted versions I always hear (depending on the interlocutor): "Reagan spent the USSR into bankruptcy through the arms race" and "the USSR was doomed anyway and the arms race was irrelevant." Poor old Gorby gets all of the blame from Judt.
