But I think a pony keg in the industry nomenclature is the half-keg size (7.5 gallons or so), which is really a quarter barrel of beer (and the full keg is a half-barrel). Someone from Wisconsin?

We used to call the half keg things pony kegs as well. Definitely needed to rent a tap with those.
