Uh, DC is filled with transplants who cheer for their original home team. The hardest Orioles ticket is for Red Sox games (and Yankees games). Don't think they're a bunch of fans just going to cheer against those teams. The only team in town that has a genuine DC following is the Redskins. At Wizards and Caps games a sizable number of fans are rooting for the visitors.

I'm from Virginia outside of the Beltway - a lot of Orioles fans around where I'm from because the Orioles are the most local baseball team. Of course, younger audiences are as likely to follow the Braves because of TBS or the Cubs because of WGN as the Orioles. Don't assume that there isn't a local following for the local teams around DC - its just that people who are actually from the area are such a minority there, especially since they keep moving out to the Shenandoah Valley. But with DC not having a baseball team of its own and the Wizards and Capitals being two of the most crappy francishes in sports, the Redskins are really the only successful team there.
