Recycled urban legend leaves Cubs fans mystified

Lots of columns for the price of one: I keep hearing from Cubs fans about the 1989 film "Back to the Future Part II," in which the Michael J. Fox character travels forward in time to 2003 -- and learns the Cubs have defeated Florida to win the World Series. Other than the fact that the Marlins and Cubs are in the NLCS and not the World Series, the coincidence is downright eerie!
* * *
Now the story has been finessed to fit current events, but it's still more an urban legend.
Here's how it goes down in the film. It's the year 2015, and Marty McFly looks up at a holographic billboard that flashes the Cubs logo and proclaims, "CUBS SWEEP MIAMI." This is followed by a Miami team logo: a cartoon alligator swinging a bat.
"Wait a minute!" exclaims McFly. "Cubs win World Series, against Miami?"
So unless and until there's a team called the Miami Gators and they're swept by the Cubs in the 2015 World Series, "Back to the Future, Part II" is NOT the Nostradamus of movies.
