Ugh. I'm far from being a big liberal, but when I get a dog I'm not going to consider going to any of those places. There are thousands of dogs at the LA Humane Society wanting for good owners. I think that should be a universal first choice.
On another thread, one of my cats is so smart he will play fetch with Q-tips, and when bored of that, he'll run the Q-tip over to a glass of water and dunk it to watch it expand. He's a little scientist or something. He also loves cantaloupe, lettuce, meat and cheese. The other one sleeps a lot, but he's about 17 years old, so let's cut him some slack.
