1). These statements (well, the ones to which they refer) have also been parroted by people on the Hill, from both sides of the aisle.

2) The "death" tax hurts anyone who is subject to it. What's the canard is that it somehow disproportionately impacts farmers and small businesses. It does not. It does disproportionately impact people of modest means who have accumulated sizable but not enormous wealth in their lifetime but failed to take appropriate estate-planning steps to avoid substantially the onus of hte tax.
