Ask any guitar player and they will tell you how underrated Lindsay is. Same thing for Mick's drumming.
Secondly, anyone discussing Mac needs to include their long, long history prior to the Lindsay/Stevie era beginning in 1975, including their Chicago blues records with Peter Green. Phenomenal stuff.
Don't get me started on Sabbath, lest I start discussing the much underrated "Technical Ectasy" LP.

Don't get me wrong. I like Fleetwood Mac, and as much as I like Rumours, I still think they are overrated, whereas there are many deserving bands that have been shut out of the HOF voting to date. I'm using that as my measure, since that was the original point of my post in discussing the HOF as one measure of "greatness".
Don't like that example? How about the Doors? I like them, but they are overrated. Their best songs were written by Robbie Krieger. Morrison's overblown, halluciongenic, sophomoric poetry was largely a joke and most people who liked his stuff were too stoned to realize it sucked.
You can have great bands that don't have great musicians, and you can have great musicians that together, don't make a great band. The Velvets, for example, weren't great musicians, but they were a fucking awesome band.
Lindsey Buckingham is a great player. You are probably right in saying he is underrated. Mick's drums are usually so far down in the mix, I can't speak to whether he is great or not. I think he's servicable, but he doesn't do much for me.
I know it's probably blasphemy to say so, buy you can be great and still be overrated. Case in point, Clapton. Great player, but completely overrated. For my money, Carlos Santana, Hendrix and Zappa, just to mention a few, completely kick his ass, as far as rock guitarists go, and there are a plethora of far lesser known blues players who standing side by side, would completely smoke him.
This is why I love music. Everybody has an opinion, sometimes a very strong one, and no one is wrong. They might be unpopular, but not necessarily wrong.
