Tom Jones is sort of "kitschy-cool". You gotta respect any guy who has panties thrown at him when he's on stage, and uses them to wipe his sweaty brow. Although as far as singers go, I would put him in the same catagory as another tarzan-yeller, Michael Bolton, albeit with much more soul.
One of the funniest things I ever saw was an old clip of his variety show where he was singing "Everyday People" with Sly and the Family Stone. If you haven't seen it, you are missing out.
