Not to get all "Mr. Science" here, but there are also studies saying that this is so, largely because of body symmetry, especially in facial features. The discussion the other day about Shannen Doherty and her "uneven eyes" is a good indication of this. These studies have also indicated that while this factor is important to both women and men, it's more important a factor for women in choosing a mate.
(Feeling a lot like Cliff Clavin right now -- and bowing my head in shame.)
