Gay Marriage in Mass.

They'll try for an amendment to the state constitution. They'll fail because that state is pretty progressive. So then they will try to give domestic partnership, much like Vermont. That might or might not happen. Failing that they'll have to give marriage. If that happens bye bye DOMA and then we'll see a hell of a fight.

Here comes your number one election issue for 2004. The war in Iraq? Nah, who cares. Terrorism? We're all safe now don't you know. Taxes, jobs and the economy? Secondary.

Oh no Ladies and Gentleman, the fags are destroying marriage, we need a President who will keep that from happening. Pass a Constitional amendment to protect us from the perverts.

I can't wait.
The constitutional amendment threat is still possible in MA because the Catholic Church remains shockingly strong politically even after the abuse scandal and there are lots of out-of-staters lobbying heavily against gay rights. And it'll be a dealbreaker for a lot of legislators looking to keep their seats. Who cares that the economy is crap, services are disappearing, and we're leaching jobs and capital like a sinking ship when gay people might be able to marry?
