Off the main topic here. I flew from JFK to Paris on July 17, 1996 -- the night of the infamous TWA flight. I looked at that flight, and decided to save money by going Air France. At first I was going to go Air Pakistan to save even more money, but my mom thought that sounded like a sketchy operation, and they'd be happy to chip in if it meant I could fly a safer airline.
When I landed at de Gaulle, I was so excited to be there (I was doing a 6 week-type hostel trip, and the first two weeks I was on my own) that I didn't really think anything of the news I heard about the crash. A few days later though, I started thinking about how my survival was pre-ordained and that I was invincible, and destined for great things (I was starting law school that fall).
