Biggie is number one. If only he had more time to build up his body of work.

Run DMC is number two. I don't care who came before them. They are the birth of hip hop. All who come after should pay homage.

NWA. I only put them at number three because Cube, Dre and E all came from this group. Dre is responsible for Snoop (who suxass, but was great on Chronic and Doggystyle) and Eminem.

Hard to fill out the rest of my top five. Arguments can be made for Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick, Wu Tang, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, Kurtis Blow, KRS-ONE, EPMD, Tupac, MC Lyte, BDK, Biz Markie, Jay-Z, Beastie Boys, PE and Uncle L.

And I just looked at the list. The fact that Will Smith, Ja Rule, Eve and Lil Kim are listed at all makes the list fatally flawed.

It's very funny that a man who reveres Biggie Smalls thinks Snoop "suxass."

My top ten:

Public Enemy
Run-DMC
Tribe
Wu Tang
Rakim
NWA
Tupac
OutKast
EPMD
Beasties

Biggie doesn't make my list because he didn't have the opportunity to build his body of work.

Speaking of hip-hop, the new WB show Platinum is very entertaining. It's a behind-the-scenes look at an independent hip-hop label.
