I think the author's heart and mind are generally in the right place, but I'm concerned about giving money to people right now. People will then go out and do things with it. Politicians will argue that we don't need to or shouldn't do an across the board non-essential business shutdown because we need people to go out and spend that money and bring the economy back.
We want people at home, cooped up, not spending on anything, not going anywhere, for at least 14 days. Forbearance does that.
Once we get past those 14 days, then let loose the helicopter money.
I think we need to focus on limiting hospitalizations first, economic concerns second.
