This is one I usually have open somewhere, it's less peaty in taste than other Laphroigs, something about the process mellows it out a fair bit.
The older Laphroigs get even more mellow; you may know it was made with a lot of peat, but what's left are little wisps of flavor that really taste nothing like the young smoky peat. Sebby's right, there is a sweet taste in it, like a rum, but way more subtle.
I'm still mourning the lack of easy accessible single malt Japanese scotches, though. When my chemo's done, I just may spring for one of the really crazy expensive remaining bottles.

Nikka. I just buy whatever I see by that distillery, and it’s all been great. Their gin is also fantastic.
I got an 8 yo Hatozaki recently. Damn fine stuff.
