Peanuts are legumes.
People who are allergic to nuts are not allergic to peanuts.
People who are allergic to peanuts are not allergic to nuts. And, god-willing, we will never see a label on a bag of peanuts that says "Warning: Contains peanuts."
People who are allergic to both nuts and peanuts are allergic to both nuts and peanuts.
I'm not allergic to either, but from what I've seen these can be pretty vicious allergies. When I was in college a student with a peanut-allergy died from eating a bowl of chili that was thickened with peanut butter. A good friend with a nut allergy has gone into coma-like shock from eating a non-nut containing donut because it had touched the coconut donuts.
Food allergies make no sense to me, from an evolutionary perspective.
