If anyone is in Houston for the next five days and hasn't seen the Heroic Century exhibit at the MFA, go. Not today, because they've sold out already, but go tomorrow or the next day. You can get in faster if a) you flash your museum membership card to anyone in a docent's jacket, and b) you eschew the headphone tour and guide yourself. Beware, the line to get in has been around the museum for the last three or so days, so I'd get there early to avoid the crowds.
It's over 200 works borrowed from MOMA's permanent collection, and it is like walking through a 20th Century Greatest Hits exhibit. The earlier pieces start around 1895 and the most recent is from 1998. I can't list them all, but an overview of the exhibit is
here.
It's almost too much to absorb in one tour, but don't miss it if you have any love at all for modern art. My understanding is that this will be the only exhibit in the US, though the show will move to Berlin next. If it proves to be a success, there is talk of building a museum in New York specificially to house this show. I'd be interested in going to Berlin to see it again.
