The all ages shows are not really the problem. There usually is such a tightly-packed swarm of younguns that little harm can be done. It is the more sparsely attended 21+ shows where there are always a couple of socially maladjusted 20-somethings with a bad attitude and a head full of meth. They have enough room to build up some speed and, when they make contact, they are out to do damage.

Bash the first one that starts flailing his arms around wildly in the back of the head - warn loudly that others will get the same - and you can usually get the mosh pit back into some sense of order.
And wear a Celtic Frost T-shirt. The kiddies will look up to you like some cool uncle.
