Whiffing Burger here, but I think net carbs are something like wind chill factor. Eight actual grams of carbohydrates, minus two grams that are "good" carbs, equals six net (grams of) carbs. The people at Atkins say it's kosher to ignore certain types of carbs that they
want you to ingest, like, for instance, fiber.
