Friendship
Just as another data point:
Of my three best friends, one each is from high school, college and law school. None live nearby, and I see each about once a year. Couple of good friends from work places. Most other friends (not including my imaginary online friends) are originally friends of baltspouse, mainly because she's from the area and I moved here after meeting her.
