Yep. And not trying to be asshole or anything, but so are roles in productions about AIDS or the Holocaust, among other social or historical catastrophes... Do a fair job in such productions and some award is virtually a guarantee.

Which is why Murray and Johannsen deserve credit for what they did. They had no plot to drive them. No disabilities. No huge social issues. Just one-on-one interpersonal issues - MUCH more difficult to portray*. And while the dialogue was very important to that portrayal, the moments in between the dialogue were even more important.
*Although some have said that Murray's personality mirrors his character's.
