Don't get me wrong, I thought Pirates was great fun, and Depp's character was quite entertaining. But I'm having a hard time understanding how a film inspired by a Disneyworld ride got an Oscar nomination.

The trend seems to be correcting past mistakes with current awards. Depp was not nominated not for his work in Pirates but for his previous body of work that my friends at The Academy have previously ignored.
