Funniest is hard, but someone who was real funny as a stand-up, but forgotten now, is Leno. Jay before taking the Tonight Show was great, the bit about the emergency instructions in an airliner, the slogan for the airlines that had recent crashes, "We go where the others don't". It's tough to make plane crashes funny, but he did.
I think he does stand-up still on weekends, but I bet he is very white-bread.
He was ruined, or crippled by the Tonight Show. Of course, he was compensated for the damage.
