Have you seen Gervais in anything other than the Office? If that's it, you can't make him the best comic actor. He's great in the role, but the role is perfect, with strong writing.
Until you see another role, you can't say he isn't another Don Knotts' playing Barney Fife, but getting ready for a career of Ralph Furleys.
