Now that Google has thoroughly confused me on the matter, go to this website for more info --
http://www.ilovethebronx.com/ (if you click on the "map" link, it has a little historical description). They call him Swedish, despite the description at the Albany museum of those Broncks as Dutch. It is a borrough, not a town, but the folks in Albany (Greene County, actually) told me something about it being the only US place that goes by "The"... and the description on the map page of The Bronx website seems to bear that out.
