OMG, MTV has officially become a "network." And puritanical at that. What next, the comedy channel thinks that South Park is too racy for prime time?

Um, I don't know where to start here. Viacom, the parent company of MTV, runs Comedy Central. It also owns or runs BET, MTV2, Nick at Nite, Nickelodeon, the N, Noggin, TV Land, Showtime, Sundance Channel, The Movie Channel, UPN, Spike, Country Music Television, and VH1. It is the largest network in the world and, allegedly, the most recognized brand in the world. They are not becoming anything; they are merely doing what they do best - market control.
