Richard Cohen on the Whole Guard Flap

Cohen's column in today's WaPo, written before anyone knew the big "press conference" was coming up:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2004Feb9.html

Cohen reflects candidly on his own Guard service in the Vietnam era, confessing that he was one whom Michael Moore would call a "deserter", and uses that as a springboard to discuss the flap surrounding the President's service. I enjoyed the column.

I don't have all the details of what was "produced" at the news conference, but I'm just SO glad that the President is having to spend time talking about this stuff. I just wish it was closer to the election.

He got pretty much a free ride in the 2000 campaign, as compared to Gore (except for the "stupid" and "grammar" things, but those ended up helping him) but what goes around comes around.
