I suppose it is a matter of preference. I find the asterisk to be more disruptive of the flow than having no asterisk and just having the footnoted words in the next sentence. But, I am mostly indifferent about the use of footnotes in Lawtalkers posts, even if they are arguably gratuitous. I was just thinking of The Paigow.
